Thought I'd end the year with a new notion find. I picked up (at Super Buzzy in Ventura, CA) a Clover Fabric Folding Pen. On first glance I saw a plastic pen with applicator tip and a bottle of liquid and my immediate thought was it was to be used for applying starch or Best Press when doing applique work.
I was surprised when I got home and actually read the package that it was a marking fluid that would make your fabric easier to fold along the line drawn with this pen.
Decided to try it for what I bought it for... applying Best Press to fabric I wanted to fold around a freezer paper template. Usually I use a brush for this and end up getting more liquid on and around the edge than I what. Plus I waste a good amount when I spray it into a dish to apply with a brush.
I opened the pen and with a stream setting sprayed some Best Press into the pen's well. I prefer Best Press over Starch. Screwed the tip back on and turned the pen downward so the liquid could flow into the hard tip. The tip is chiseled and is about 3/16 across. Perfect for my applique seam allowance.
The fluid flowed evenly over my seam allowance. No extra spillage; just the right amount of liquid came out and dampened my fabric. The next test was to wait over night to see if there was any clogging of the Best Press in the tip. Glad to say today I tried it again and it flowed just as easily as it did the first time.
